2023 Release Reviews
SHANTEH WALE - Winepilot.com.au
2023 Rosé
Sourced from a single site in the King Valley. A delicate pink pearl hue in the glass. The wine begins and ends with summer berries of wild strawberries, cranberry and fig. Slotted between are pink lady apple skin, crab apple blossom and mangosteen. It's a delightful juicy wine with a strawberry flesh middle palate and long, dry and chiselled finish. A delicate, elegant and fruitful Rosé that focuses on purity of fruit. A wine that would look stunning beside pink snapper sashimi, white soy and finger lime. A real celebration of the Alpines. 93 Points
2023 Prosecco
Fruit is included from both the King and Alpine Valleys and this is why the Valleys are the mecca for Prosecco in this country. Green pear, orchard apples and lemon sherbet blossom from the glass. Slices of Nashi, star fruit and golden kiwi follow. It's a basket of fruit full to the brim with a hint of chamomile tea and honeysuckle. A crisp finish, this is a perfect aperitif or bottle for celebration long into the night. Drink now and often with dancing music. 91 Points
2023 Pinot Grigio
Lemon myrtle, aloe and green apple peel. There is a touch of lime pith, jasmine and cloudy pear nectar. The brightness of the fruit is testament that the King Valley is the perfect location for Pinot Grigio, where the grape flourishes and produces that crunch of crisp acidity and Spring time flavours. It's clean and pure like a running river stream. Drink now with stuffed zucchini blossoms. 91 Points
2023 Pinot Gris Single Site Reserve
An exact take on the slightly riper and fleshier Pinot Gris with quince, baked pears and glaced ginger. A hint of rambutan, rockmelon and pandan leaf. The wine is languid and luxurious on the palate with a touch of creamed honey and buttered toast. The wine finishes dry with a richness to the mouthfeel. Would look beautiful with a ripened soft cheese, crumbled walnuts and a drizzle of honey. 91 points
KEN GARGETT - Winepilot.com.au
Reserve Blanc de Blancs NV
This is from the Twin Valleys Single Site Reserve range, from the King Valley River vineyard. A fine and elegant blanc de blancs style, neatly balanced and with appealing persistence. The colour is a very pale yellow. The nose weaves through gentle hints of brioche and nuts, lemons, citrus and more, but it is the pears, riverstones and mineral backing which dominates here. Crisp, clean and bright, the freshness is appealing. A refined and refreshing style, this will provide impressive drinking over the next two to three years. 91 Points
Rosé 2023
From a single King Valley site, this Rose offers a really lovely pale neon pink hue.
Delightfully fragrant, but always in balance and in check. Aromas of rose petals, strawberries and a gentle fresh cherry note. This is summer in a glass. Good focus with a fine line of acidity. Attractive grip on the finish, clean and without any hint of cloying. The finish lingers nicely. Two to five years. 92 Points
Pinot Grigio 2023
A single vineyard in the King Valley provides the fruit for this zesty and exuberant example of this variety. A pale green yellow in colour, this has lifted, vivacious aromatics. Ripe in nature, there are dry herbs, pears, green apples, citrus and a hint of honeycomb. A soft, supple and quite delicious texture, with the flavours to match. A very attractive plushness. Enjoy this over the next two to three years. The score is simply for the joy and the pleasure the wine is offering today. 92 Points
Reserve Pinot Gris 2023
This forms an interesting contrast with the Pinot Grigio. For me, neither is better – they are simply different and it is most definitely worth exploring those differences. Another from the single site series, this time from the Alpine Valleys, the colour is pale straw. As opposed to the exuberant wonder of the Grigio, this is more refined and classic. Take your pick as to your preference. Notes of pears are to the fore here – crisp, fresh pears, but also notes of spicy stewed pears, along with ginger, lemons and floral touches. Tight and focused, this has balance and length. A good line of acidity runs the course. This can be enjoyed any time over the next five to six years. 92 Points
