Description

Our 2024 Twin Valleys Pinot Gris, sourced from an Alpine Valleys vineyard, exudes elegance and charm. Its pale straw colour captivates the eye from the moment it fills the glass. The nose is an inviting bouquet of delicate floral aromas intertwined with vibrant spiced pear notes, cinnamon, and Meyer lemon.

This single-site wine from the Whorouly sub-region in the Alpine valleys GI reveals a beautiful balance between crisp acidity and a textural, ripe-fruit mouthfeel. The palate is greeted with flavours of ripe, spiced, poached nashi pear, honey, ginger, and nuances of both white and yellow nectarine. These flavours dance effortlessly, harmonised by zesty acidity, leaving a refreshing and lingering finish.

A delightful expression of an cold climate Pinot Gris, this wine showcases gentle mineral undertones and a fruit-forward style. It makes for a versatile companion to various cuisines or a delightful wine to enjoy on its own.

Gorgeously composed and expressed, showing Nashi pear, fig, lime peel and rich floral aromas on the nose. The palate is equally satisfying with terrific weight and fruit intensity, beautifully framed by fleshy texture and juicy acidity, finishing persistent and enticing. At its best: now to 2030. 95pts Sam Kim

A highly enjoyable wine that shows what’s possible with Pinot Gris. While perhaps not as complex as the Pinot Grigio, it more than makes up for it with concentrated and vibrant aromas and flavours: apple, peach, lemon, fresh honeysuckle and rose. The palate is salty, oily and zippy, with minerality giving it a sherbet-like feel in the mouth. Of the four wines tasted, it was the winner as the most enjoyable, though out of a solid lineup. I think it’s pretty fair to keep expecting big things from the Twin Valleys team as they’re already delivering in the sweet spot between quality and value.
    94pts Brendan Black

Expressive and pure-fruited out of the gate. Nashi pear, red apple, apple blossom, a suggestion of cinnamon and a whisper of pastry dough. It’s so pretty and lifted, so enticing. The palate follows suit - vibrant pear, red apple, quince, and ripe lemon burst through the mouth with a gentle bitterness to the sides adding allure and edge. It finishes with a persistent push of these fruit notes long through the palate to a fresh and pure-fruited close. The third wine tasted from this producer in this sitting, and the third to carry definition, purity and freshness with aplomb.
    92pts Tom Kline

From a single site in the Alpine Valley this is a wine that displays a level of complexity and intrigue you normally don’t get with this generally simplistic variety. A combination of pear and apple open on the nose but they are soon joined by other nuances of apricot and nectarine. The palate is textured but there is a refreshingly lifted acidity. Nice wine.

    Pairing

Some dishes to note, would include fresh seafood (perhaps grilled prawns, ceviche, or fresh oysters), crispy salads (think goat cheese, green apples, and rocket/arugula), or roast chicken or pork. The juicy, flavourful meats would be beautifully balanced by the crisp acidity and fruit ripeness of the wine.
